Tropical Indoor Garden in Vilassar | Private Villa with Glass-Enclosed Patio in the Maresme, Barcelona
An Exotic Green Oasis That Transforms the Living Room into a Tropical Sanctuary
This interior landscaping project was created for a private villa in Vilassar, in the Maresme region, just outside Barcelona. The client wanted to recreate the feeling of a tropical jungle inside the living room, taking advantage of a glass‑enclosed patio that opens visually to the outdoors while remaining sheltered from wind and direct sunlight.
The goal was to enhance the interior views with a sophisticated botanical composition that delivers an immersive sensory experience and a constant connection with nature.
Challenge: Integrating Tropical Vegetation in a Protected Glass-Enclosed Space
The home’s contemporary architecture included a glass patio that visually connected the interior with the exterior while maintaining a controlled microclimate. The challenge was to transform this space into a lush tropical garden that evokes the atmosphere of a natural rainforest without compromising indoor comfort or energy efficiency.

Solution: A Botanical Composition Adapted to the Mediterranean Climate
The planting design focused on resilient tropical species capable of thriving in a protected, semi‑interior environment. The composition includes:
- Natural stones carefully selected to add texture, contrast and authenticity
- Monstera deliciosa as the sculptural focal point
- Ficus Amstel King adding depth and elegance
- Ferns, ophiopogon and aspidistra recreating the layered structure of a tropical understory
An Indoor Garden as an Extension of the Living Room
During the day, the garden becomes a living painting, visible from the living room and offering a continuous connection with nature. The glass enclosure acts as a frame, integrating the botanical composition into the architectural design.
At night, warm lighting creates a play of shadows and highlights that evokes the quiet magic of a tropical forest.
Result: A Tropical Indoor Garden in the Heart of the Maresme
This case study demonstrates how interior landscaping can transform a private villa in the Barcelona suburbs into a sophisticated botanical retreat adapted to the Mediterranean climate. The combination of tropical vegetation, precise botanical design and a glass‑enclosed architectural space creates a unique environment for clients seeking well‑being, exclusivity and a deeper connection with nature.
This project illustrates how I transform interior patios and terraces into functional, aesthetic spaces perfectly adapted to the Mediterranean climate of the Catalan coast — integrating tropical vegetation, natural light and contemporary architecture into a serene, year‑round living environment.
